Job description:

We are a national law firm with over 180 staff.

We have 1 vacancy in the Personal Injury department at our head office in North London (which is conveniently located opposite the tube station on the Piccadilly Line) for a Paralegal with Portuguese language skills to help us to continue to provide a high level of service to our Portuguese speaking clients and to develop our links with the community.

The main duties of the role will include meeting with clients at our offices and their homes; speaking to clients on the telephone; taking statements; drafting correspondence and other documents; general case handling and marketing to develop our links with the Portuguese speaking community.

Applicants should:

• Be fluent in Portuguese (spoken only) and English (spoken and written). Due to the nature of our work a good standard of written English is very important.

• Have a degree at 2.1 or above (or equivalent) and a good academic record generally. A law degree is not necessary, but would be an advantage.

• Have some experience in a busy office environment, in a role requiring a high level of attention to detail.

• Be hard working, highly committed, reliable and flexible.

• Have a positive attitude and the ability to use initiative.

• Be flexible with regard to working hours, able to work extra hours when the need arises.

• Be able to build relationships within the community across a spectrum of organisations and private companies.

• Be IT literate and well organised.

• Be articulate and confident.

• Be prepared to travel to see clients, mainly within the greater London area but also elsewhere. Expenses for such travel will be paid

We are particularly interested in hearing from applicants who are studying the LPC, BVC or ILEX on a part time basis; or who are taking time out of education between the law degree and one of those courses with a view to studying on a part time basis in the future.

Practical legal experience in Personal Injury would be an advantage.
