Having reached 34% of the GDP in 2022, tax burden in Brazil is scattered across around 90 different taxes. Furthermore, as per the Brazilian Constitution’s adopted federative format, allocation of taxing powers encompasses the Federal Union, 26 States and 5,570 local governments, each of them enacting tax rules and engaging in administrative and judicial tax litigation.
Martin was the CEO of Aberdeen Asset Management PLC, which he co-founded in 1983. Under his leadership, Aberdeen became one of the world’s leading independent asset managers through a combination of organic growth and strategic acquisitions. In its first year, the business had assets under management (AuM) of £70m and reported profits before tax of £87, in 2016 the figure was £352m with AuM at £312bn. In 2017 Aberdeen merged with Standard Life, to become Standard Life Aberdeen (now abrdn). Martin was co-CEO and subsequently vice chairman until he retired from abrdn in September 2020.
As part of Fintech Week, the Financial Services Committee of the Brazilian Chamber and the Embassy of Brazil hosted a meeting for the Brazilian delegates from the UK Fintech mission promoted by DBT (Department for Business and Trade). The mission aimed at connecting Brazilian and British fintech/financial services ecosystems.
